What is Atomic Fusion?

Atomic Fusion is a fully managed, Kafka-compatible data streaming platform designed for high throughput, low latency, and reliability. It lets applications produce and consume real-time data using familiar Kafka clients, while a fundamentally different architecture removes many of the storage and scaling constraints found in traditional Kafka deployments.

What is data streaming?

Data streaming is the continuous movement of information between applications and systems as events occur, rather than collecting and processing data in batches. It enables businesses to react to new information in real time, powering applications like fraud detection, operational monitoring, and real-time analytics.

Streaming platforms like Atomic Fusion reliably deliver and retain this data, allowing multiple applications to consume and process events independently.

How is Atomic Fusion different from traditional Kafka?

Traditional Kafka combines request processing and durable partition storage within its brokers. Fusion separates these responsibilities, distributing partition data across an independent storage fleet. This enables higher single-partition throughput and allows broker capacity to scale without relocating durable partition logs.

Who is Atomic Fusion built for?

Atomic Fusion is built for organizations that depend on fast, reliable, and scalable data streaming. From financial transactions and fraud detection to real-time analytics, IoT, and AI pipelines, Fusion powers applications that demand high throughput, low latency, and uncompromising durability—all without the operational complexity of traditional Kafka infrastructure.

Can I use Atomic Fusion with my existing Kafka applications and topics?

Fusion supports existing Kafka applications through compatible client APIs, but not every Kafka feature is currently available. Topics must be created in the Fusion console, and moving an existing workload may require migrating historical data and consumer offsets. See our compatibility page for supported capabilities and limitations.

Is the Atomic Fusion streaming platform secure?

Yes. Atomic Fusion is designed with security at every layer.

Data is protected in transit with TLS and at rest using authenticated encryption, with per-stream encryption keys and strict separation between brokers and distributed storage. Storage nodes never have access to plaintext stream contents or encryption keys, while cryptographic integrity checks help detect unauthorized modifications.

How is Atomic Fusion priced?

Atomic Fusion uses transparent, usage-based pricing. You pay for provisioned clusters and partitions, along with the data you produce, consume, and retain. There are no infrastructure sizing decisions or broker fleets to manage.

What infrastructure do I need to manage?

None. Atomic Fusion is a fully managed service that handles brokers, distributed storage, replication, scaling, and infrastructure recovery automatically.

You manage your logical streaming resources—such as environments, clusters, topics, partitions, and retention settings—while we manage the underlying infrastructure.

How do I get started with Atomic Fusion?

Create a cluster and configure your topics in the Atomic Fusion console, then connect your Kafka clients using your Fusion bootstrap endpoints and credentials. Applications using supported Kafka APIs can begin producing and consuming messages without adopting a new streaming protocol.

What happens if a broker or storage node fails?

Atomic Fusion is designed to withstand infrastructure failures, including the failure of an entire availability zone, without data loss and with little to no impact on availability. Writes are durably persisted across at least two of three availability zones before acknowledgement.

When a broker fails, Fusion automatically reassigns its partitions to healthy brokers. Applications may experience a brief interruption during the recovery process.

How does Atomic Fusion scale as my workloads grow?

Atomic Fusion separates compute and storage, allowing each to scale independently as demand increases. Its distributed storage architecture spreads workloads across a large fleet of machines, eliminating traditional storage bottlenecks and enabling higher throughput—even for individual partitions. Fusion automatically manages the underlying infrastructure, so you can focus on growing your applications rather than managing brokers, rebalancing partitions, or provisioning storage.
