Kafka-Compatible. Architecturally Different.

Continue using supported Kafka clients, familiar APIs, and existing producer-consumer patterns. Atomic Fusion speaks the Kafka wire protocol, delivering a fundamentally different streaming architecture without requiring applications to adopt a proprietary messaging interface. Built for developers who want more from their streaming infrastructure without rewriting their applications.

Bring Your Existing Kafka Applications

For applications using supported Kafka functionality, connecting to Fusion primarily involves updating Kafka client endpoints and authentication settings. Production migrations may require additional work to transfer historical data, preserve consumer positions, and validate application behavior. Get started in three steps:

  1. Create

Create a cluster and topics using the Atomic Fusion console.

  2. Connect

Connect your Kafka clients using your Fusion bootstrap endpoints and credentials.

  3. Stream

Produce and consume messages using your existing application code.

Your Applications Already Speak Kafka

  • Kafka has become a standard interface for real-time, event-driven applications. Producers, consumers, topics, partitions, offsets, and consumer groups are familiar building blocks used throughout the industry.
  • Fusion preserves these core abstractions.
  • Applications can produce and consume messages using supported Kafka client libraries, with familiar consumer-group coordination and offset management.
  • There's no need to learn a new messaging protocol or replace your application's existing data streaming model.

Familiar Infrastructure. Simpler Management.

  • Fusion separates application-level streaming operations from infrastructure management.
  • Applications communicate using the Kafka protocol, while the Atomic Fusion console provides a dedicated interface for managing streaming resources.
  • Create, delete, and configure topics directly through the console without managing Kafka brokers or their underlying storage.
  • Kafka administrative APIs for creating, deleting, and configuring topics are not currently supported. These operations are managed through the Atomic Fusion console.

Built for Real-World Streaming Applications

Fusion supports essential Kafka capabilities, including idempotent producers and static consumer-group membership. These capabilities preserve familiar streaming patterns while allowing applications to benefit from Fusion's underlying architecture.

  • Idempotent Producers

Prevent duplicate messages caused by automatic producer retries within a producer session.

  • Consumer Groups

Coordinate consumers to distribute processing workloads and track progress through streams.

  • Static Group Membership

Assign persistent consumer identities to reduce unnecessary group rebalances during brief restarts and interruptions.

Compatibility Without Guesswork

Kafka is a broad protocol with many APIs, versions, and optional capabilities. Fusion focuses on core streaming functionality while documenting precisely what is—and isn't—supported. Our compatibility reference covers supported Kafka protocol versions, client libraries, producer and consumer capabilities, and known limitations.
